My journey with Marana Unified School District began as a student in the early 1980s. I attended Thornydale Elementary, then DeGrazia Elementary, before moving on to Tortolita Junior High. I later became part of the early years at Mountain View High School, where I attended from 1986 to 1991, back when the school originally opened serving grades 7–9.

Those early experiences shaped who I am today. As a student, MUSD gave me more than just an education, it gave me a foundation. I had teachers who knew me, who pushed me, and who genuinely cared about my success both in and out of the classroom. There was a strong sense of belonging. You weren’t just passing through, you were part of something.

That sense of connection is what brought me back as a teacher, and I’ve had the privilege of serving as a teacher in Marana Schools since 1996.

What stands out to me is how much Marana has grown while still holding onto what makes it special. There are more opportunities than ever for students, expanded programs, stronger Career and Technical Education pathways, and a focus on meeting students where they are, whether they’re college-bound, career-focused, or still exploring their future.

What truly makes MUSD exceptional, though, is its people. Every day, I see dedicated staff who bring energy, creativity, and care to their work, building meaningful relationships and supporting students through every challenge.

Even with that growth, Marana remains a close-knit community. You can feel the pride at games, performances, and in everyday moments on campus. MUSD hasn’t lost its heart, it’s simply grown, continuing to ensure every student is known, supported, and challenged.
