Working with local law enforcement, Marana Unified School District is implementing new terminology to use during non-critical and emergency situations on campuses and in classrooms. The following terminology may be used in our communications/Safety Notices when providing staff and families with incident information. 

  • SHELTER
    “Shelter” is the procedure used in circumstances such as animal on campus, severe weather, hazardous materials spill or release, etc.
     
  • SECURE
    “Secure” is the procedure for incidents that are not an immediate threat to campus, and they are occurring outside the building. “Secure” is a precautionary measure.
     
  • LOCKDOWN
    “Lockdown” is the procedure used for active situations on campus that are an immediate threat and may involve nearby police activity, intruders on campus, etc.
