Related Services
Physical Therapy is one of the related services provided at all locations in the Marana Unified School District. Within the educational model, physical therapists may assist these students with the development and practice of their motor and mobility skills, to increase safety in accessing the educational environment.

Marana Unified School District takes the safety of all students very seriously. Parents of students confined to wheelchairs are sent a letter in order to review the safety standards for transporting a child in a chair.

Supporting Students in Attaining Their Educational Goals
Physical therapy within the public school setting is an educationally related service that supports students in attaining their educational goals, enhances participation in their educational program, and promotes safety and independence in accessing the educational environment. A student may require educationally related physical therapy intervention to benefit from special education as specified on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP), or as part of an accommodation plan under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Within the educational model, physical therapists may assist these students with the development and practice of their motor and mobility skills, to increase safety in accessing the educational environment. Physical therapists may assist with training staff and determining equipment needs for school. They may also communicate with community agencies on behalf of the student, in accordance with the law. The student may receive physical therapy as an educationally related service through the school system only if their condition or functional motor skills interfere with their ability to access their educational environment and participate in their educational program. Services are integrated as much as possible into the context of the classroom and normal school activities. They may be delivered through a consult, monitor, and/or direct intervention model.
